The baby is now the length of a spaghetti squash. About 11 inches and weighs almost 1 lb. The teeth have formed beneath his/her gums, the liver is functioning and the pancreas is producing insulin. His/her sense of touch is well established, and apparently babies at this stage stroke their face a lot because of that.
I am getting bigger too. I've gained 16 lbs, and that seems like too much to me. But, it didn't seem like too much when I had 3 doughnuts at work the other day. (I can't resist doughnuts, pregnant or not). I regretted the 3 doughnuts this morning when I weighed myself. And then this week we are having this huge 4th of July celebration all weekend with tons of food. I'll be at 20 lbs next week. Wow, that sounds like a LOT.
I've been a little stressed this week too, about the nursery decor and this whole cloth diapering thing. I can't for the life of me figure out how cute little sock monkeys can freak people out.

But, I guess they do, and that plus the fact that I'm the most indecisive person on the planet made this a really difficult decision. But, we bought the fabric today, so our baby will officially have a sock monkey nursery. I'm still a little nervous.
And cloth diapers. There are thousands of types of cloth diapers. It's so overwhelming. We are taking a cloth diapering class on July 12. That is crazy. A class on cloth diapers? Well, turns out, we need one desperately.
And registering. Babies R Us is the most overwhelming store ever. As new parents, all of this stuff is foreign. We've been there twice so far, and we still aren't completely finished with our registry. It makes my brain hurt to go in there.
This baby is already a lot of work.

I'm confident the nursery will be really cute.
Love, Mom
I think it will be adorable.
Things have changed so much in the baby world I think I would be overwhelmed at Babies R Us!
I really think the nursery is going to look perfect and you will love it that much more b/c you designed it...didn't just buy it out of a package.
Lurker here - but I love Sock Monkeys and I think a nursery in them will be adorable!! You're so creative that it will be precious I'm sure.
Don't stress too much about what you need for the baby - all you really need are diapers, nursing pads (or bottles & formula if your not nursing) a carseat and somewhere for the baby to sleep the rest of the stuff is just to make it easier on you. They outgrow all the swings, bouncy things, strollers and exersaucers so quickly that before you know it you'll be putting it away to make room for toys!
My advice is just enjoy it - and register for gift cards so you can go out and buy things as you need them! I registered for a lot of stuff I ended up not using!
Sorry this is so long - I meant to comment on your sock monkey fabric choices earlier but forgot to come back and do so. Best wishes to you and your little one Emily!
Oh gosh, I hope you didn't take my comment about the monkeys the wrong way :( I've just never been a monkey-type person, really. But I do think that it's a cute fabric & theme for a nursery.
Don't stress so much about the cloth diapers.....you'll do just fine & you & John will be wonderful parents :) Parenting almost comes natural once the little one arrives!
Believe me you, you are going to read back on this journal entry and laugh at your "stress" over this.
I LOVE the sock monkeys - so unique and fun! It's a great theme to grow into.
I just picked up a great book that helped me a little bit with registering. It's called Baby Bargins and it goes through baby products galore (600 pages). It really helped me to see what I needed and what really wasn't necessary (on top of rating the best products out there).
Happy 4th!
Try not to stress... babies don't need half as much as we think they do.. really they don't- they grow out of everything so quickly that your better off leaving most of it in the store.
... and your nursery- will be fantastic!
