Happy birthday Marcel!

Today is Jack's cousin (and our Godson) Marcel's 2nd birthday!! Rachel prepared us a yummy guatemalan dinner and we had tres leche birthday cake! Marcel loved all of his gifts, and Jack and Marcel had some dancing time! Marcel wanted to dance with Jack and Jack LOVED the attention from his cousin!

I think we might have a future piano player on our hands. Aunt Christine, Uncle Chris and Aunt Kelly and Uncle Tyler gave Marcel a piano for his birthday yesterday, and Jack LOVED it! He played and played and played!

We were planning on going to the Red Wings Stanley Cup Parade on Tuesday, but unfortunately, they lost last night. This was Jack's reaction immediately after the game was over.

Can this day get any worse??

First, it started with a really terrible day at work, followed by a headache that wouldn't leave.

Then, I found out that Stevie Y, our Red Wing captain for the last 20 years is retiring. Ok, we knew it was going to happen, and we knew it would be soon. But, it still hurts. Things just won't be the same.

Then, I thought to myself, Self, look at it this way, things can't get worse...you have the day off tomorrow! Nothing is better than a day off work. Things are good.

Then can you guess what happened? Ben Wallace, the face of the Detroit Pistons, has accepted the Chicago Bulls offer. He is no longer a Piston. Nobody really thought he would leave. He loves Detroit. Or, I suppose loved Detroit. Then again, maybe he didn't. I mean, we offered him $48 million and they offered him $52 million. When you are talking that many millions, does it really make a difference???? I'm really disappointed, Ben. What an incredible group of 5 guys we had.

Thank goodness for the Tigers. Did I mention the Tigers are the best team in baseball right now? That Pudge Rodriguez is the starting catcher for the All Star game? That Kenny Rogers is pitching in the All Star game? At least the Tigers can't disappoint me!

Our Lucky Day

So now that my blog is fixed, I can post about our lucky day on Wednesday! After work on Wednesday, John and I decided to go to a Tiger game. We like Tiger games as you can tell by my banner. We parked our car on a side street right near the park. It's free and lots of people park there, but no one was really parked there yet, so we were feeling pretty lucky. We saw someone else pull up and park there as we were walking away. Little did we know that that person was saying to his wife "I wonder if they have tickets yet." Obviously they don't know us, because it would never occur to us to buy Tiger tickets in advance. Maybe we should consider that! So, we walk to the stadium and get in line, when he walks up to us and says, "You guys parked near us, right? Do you need tickets? I have two extra." So, we took them, and found our seats...they were FABULOUS!! $30 tickets and they were right behind home plate way in the front! And FREE! Super cool.

I had brought my 70-300 mm zoom lens just to practice with it, and I got some great shots!!!

Here are a couple:

And take a look at who we saw at the game a few rows away from us.....

Yep, Kris Draper of Red Wing fame!

Have a great Father's Day everyone!

It's a Sad Day...

...in Detroit.

So, Detroit sports were rocking this year - three of four professional sports teams were NUMBER ONE in their leauges - then the playoffs happened...

First, the best team in the NHL lost in the first round of the playoffs....

Then, the best team in the NBA lost in the Conference finals.....

well.....

At least we have the Tigers!!! They are the best team in baseball right now....we haven't been this good since 1987. It's really pretty exciting! And now that our beloved Red Wings and Pistons are out of work for the year, all of our energy has to be focused on our FAVORITE team in the city, the Tigers. We'll have to go to a game soon....
