Christmas update

Sorry for the long time in between posts...everything just got really busy before Christmas! Last minute shopping, tree decorating, and taking care of a baby doesn't leave much time for blogging! This post will have a lot of photos! These are the pictures we used for our Christmas cards! I tried and tried to get a smile, but no luck!

Here is is 2 month picture taken on December 21st!

Jack and I taking a break from the Christmas preparations!

Katie and Greg had Christmas Eve at their house this year. Jack was super cute in his penguin sweater vest compliments of Aunt Karen. Here are a few photos of the evening.

We all sang Silent Night to Aunt Nancy over the phone, who was in the hospital.

The girls and the babies...

My sweet baby!

Marcel got a teepee from Kelly and Tyler and Christine and Chris.

Our family.

After midnight mass with the Murray's we drove to my Aunt Karen and Uncle Doug's house to and opened our Christmas Eve pjs. I just love Jack's first Christmas pjs!

Jack got way too many presents...look at all the toys! For a 2 month old baby! Can you find Jack in the picture?

Here's a closer look!

We are still trying to recover from the holiday and find a place for all these toys!!

Baby Jack is smiling!

This is as close as I have gotten to catching one on camera. He smiles much bigger than this normally. I think this boy might end up with red hair. Look at those eyebrows!

John took this one the other day. I kept hearing people say "sleep when baby sleeps." Best advice ever.

Newborn photos

Jack's Aunt Katie took some newborn photos of Jack, here are a couple. They are FANTASTIC! Thanks Aunt Katie!

Oh, and an exciting breastfeeding update: Jack has been breastfeeding successfully for 3 1/2 days straight! I think he's finally figured it out!! I just hope this streak doesn't end!

One Month Old!

Baby Jack is one month old today! He is definitely more alert, and is seeing some of his toys now. We're still working on the breastfeeding, but it's not improving too much.

Great Grandpa and Grandma were here to visit Jack last weekend.

Four Generations of McMahans.

He was really noticing his toys on his playmat the other day.

Mom, stop taking pictures!

An update, finally!

Sorry for the long wait for an update. My mom has really been nagging me to update this thing, but being Mom to a newborn baby takes a lot of time, and the time I'm not feeding him or changing him, I'm trying to sleep!

Breastfeeding update: It's going better! Our pediatrician clipped his tongue (Jack was tongue tied) and it seemed to do the trick. He's still not great at it, we both get a milk bath when he eats, but, it's a huge improvement. The next decision is, do we keep breastfeeding and hope he gets better at it, or do I just pump and give him bottles? Right now, Jack is not gaining weight like he should be. He's still not back to his birth weight. He's 6 lbs, 14 oz as of yesterday. Our last dr. appt he was 6 lbs 12 oz and our pediatrician wants us to supplement after he eats. So, he eats, I pump, then we feed him a bottle. Feeding now takes an hour. It's exhausting, doing that every 2-3 hours. His next appointment is tomorrow, we are praying that he gains another couple of ounces before then.

Jack got his newborn photos taken by Aunt Katie, he wasn't too happy about it, so hopefully she was able to get some good ones!

Here's some new pictures of baby Jack...

Here is Jillian and Jack. Jillian would like Jack to get a little bigger, so she can play with him. He's a little boring to her right now!

Jack's first shopping trip. Please don't look at mommy, she clearly was having a rough day!

Jack didn't even know he left the house.

Baby Jack's first real bath. Daddy didn't catch Jack at the best time...he really actually kind of likes the bath, it's SO much better than the sponge baths! He's just so little, it's hard to keep him upright in the tub, even with the infant seat. He seems pretty comfortable in the water, which makes Mommy really happy!

Oh, and Happy birthday to John, he turned 35 on Tuesday. I have absolutely no photos, because we did nothing! Well, nothing, but take care of our 3 week old baby!

And, that is all I have right now. I'll leave you with one last picture of my sweet boy.

40 weeks

Today is my due date...and how funny that the 40 week vegetable is a pumpkin, on October 30!

Thank goodness I never made it this far! I just had to post the pumpkin!

We are still having problems breastfeeding, we've had lactation consultants come to the house, and a nurse at the hospital is still trying to help us. Most of our day is spent trying to feed, and changing diapers.

We've had more company...
Aunt Karen the Great and Great Uncle Doug

Aunt Katie and Uncle Greg

And Jack had his first bath. Well, sponge bath.

Jack did lose his umbilical cord stump yesterday, so we will be able to give him a real bath soon!

More of baby Jack!

First, a few questions came up after my last post....
Benita asked if he was named after someone...and yes, he is named after my husband, John Gregory. We didn't want another John in the house, but since Jack is a nickname for John, we went that way ;)

Nicole asked if I was at the Alternative Birth Care Unit at Providence, and yes, I was. The ABC unit there was FANTASTIC! The nurses were incredible, and still are, even since we've been discharged! I couldn't have been happier with my experience there!

Here is a video John took about an hour after Jack was born. He was holding a camera too, so the video is really shaky.

We took Jack to his first doctors appointment on Friday. Everything is good, he weighs 6 lbs 8 oz. His only issue right now is breastfeeding. We are having a lot of trouble with it. Trouble isn't the right word. He just won't do it.

Here is a picture of him in his bouncer...he's a little young yet, I think, he didn't care about it at all, he just looked at me the whole time.

And, we've had lots of company.

Here's Grandma and Grandpa

And Great Grandma

On Sunday, Jack asked Uncle Bryant and Aunt Rachel to be his Godparents. They said yes!

And, here is Jack's first cloth diaper experience. I just love the fluffy butt!

Tomorrow John starts working again, so we'll see how that goes!
